Jarapa rugs are Spanish rugs hand-woven on wooden looms by local craftspeople in some of the villages of Andalusia. The technique used was originally brought to Spain by the Moors in the 8th Century and adopted by the local people in the 15th Century.

Our Jarapa rugs are handmade using recycled cotton and cotton chenille from the textile industry which is spooled onto bobbins and then onto shuttles to weave the rugs. This fantastic material gives them a hardwearing quality as well as making them warm, soft to the touch and machine washable for great ease of use.

The Jarapa rugs are very easy to maintain and long lasting. Here are a few tips on how to care for your Jarapa rugs:

- Shake your Jarapa rugs outside to remove any loose cotton before placing them in your house.
- For bedside rugs or small area rugs, wash on a 30 degrees cycle in your domestic washing machine. If larger rugs are purchased, you can wash them in a launderette.
- For reversible rugs, tumble dry to enhance the pile, and shake regularly between washes to keep the pile nice and fluffy.
- After washing your jarapa rug, check your washing machine filter for any excess fluff, and clear it if necessary.
- Do not bleach.
- Do not iron.
- Jarapa rugs can be cleaned using a vacuum cleaner to remove any dust with a soft-furnishing attachment.
- You can secure your Spanish rugs on any surfaces with double sided tape, rug underlay, or anti-slip spray. For a list of Rug anti-slip Suppliers visit our Rug anti-slip Suppliers page.
